The Drum Major...

On February 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his interpretation of  the 1952 "Drum-Major instincts" by Wallace Hamilton.  In Dr. King's speech he asked that his people seek greatness through love and service. Dr. King also asked that when he dies his services is not long and if someone gives his eulogy they should not speak of the Noble Peace prize he's won, the number of awards he was awarded, or the number of times he was arrested fighting justice, but to speak of his attempts to help his people. He wanted the eulogist to speak of:

  •  his attempts to give his life serving others
  • his attempts to  love somebody
  • his attempts to be right on the war question
  • his attempts to feed the hungry
  • his attempts to cloth those that were naked
  • his attempts to visit those who were in prison
  • Lastly, his attempt to love and serve humanity

So as we remember Dr. Martin Luther King,  don't take it as a day off but a day to give your life serving others.

Happy 83rd Birthday Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
