Class: Politicizing Beyoncé; Section: 101

Following in her husband  footsteps, Rutgers University announces  PhD student and lecturer Kevin Allred will teach a course on Beyoncé, called Politicizing Beyoncé. According to Allred the course is not designed to discuss Beyoncé's political engagement or the number of times she performed during the presidential inauguration. However, the course will focused on  Beyoncé the artist, her music, and career. The course will look at American race, gender, and sexual politics."

The coursework will look at Beyoncé's music videos and lyric through the lens of distinguished women's activist and authors such as Alice Walker, Bell Hooks, our favorite Toni Morrison, and even Sojourner Truth. The syllabus will consist of  topics relating to Beyoncé's performances: Are they empowering or stereotypical, and topics surrounding the control  Beyoncé's over her image and career.

A similar course to Beyoncé's can be found at Georgetown University regarding  Beyonce's husband Jay-Z, “The Sociology of Hip-Hop: The Theodicy of Jay-Z!” These course should be interesting.
