With the start of the New Year I decided that I was going to do things differently and challenge myself monthly. So, my first challenge for the month of January was to wear my natural hair for 30 days without any additions (i.e: wigs or weaves). This challenge came to me after straightening my hair "bone straight" or what we New Yorkers call "wash and set".
After that experience, I suffered from the most heat damage I ever encountered throughout my 21 months of being natural. That experience caused me to go on what I called "restore my curls" journey. The "restore my curls" journey, led me to my " wear your natural hair" challenge. For this challenge I basically had to wear my kinks and coils (what was left) for 30 days straight without any wigs, weaves, or braids.

Well, some may say "why would wearing your hair natural for 30 days be a challenge, if you've been natural for 21 months?" Well what I neglected to share was I'm addicted to the wig/weave life. I am a certified weave-aholic and wig-nista. I live for the wigs and the weaves and before this challenge I would not leave home without a snatched wig or weave. However, the natural hair challenge has allowed me to pay close attention to my hair and to understand what my hair likes and doesn't like. I'm glad I took the plunge and committed to the challenge and today I can say I have successfully completed with gradual improvements. My curls are not fully restored however, I am seeing progress and my hair is much healthier than it was last month. I have even observed hair growth. How an I attempting to "restore my curls?" check out my natural hair page on instagram: @naturalglamlife :-)
